Carpet – Clean It OR Replace It? {Best Practices}

Carpet - Clean It or Replace It?

Should you clean your carpet, or should you replace your carpet? A question that many people ponder.

What you might not know is that many carpet manufacturers offer an extended warranty. In order to keep the warranty, typically the carpet needs to be professionally cleaned every so often and the carpet owner must be able to supply receipts for these cleanings.

There are two types of carpet cleaning – hot water extraction and low moisture cleaning.

Hot water extraction is usually the type that is required to keep carpet warranties in place.

However, low moisture cleaning is often recommended (and sometimes is approved to keep carpet warranties valid) because it:

  • Dries in minutes
  • Uses less water – Environmentally friendly
  • Leaves no chemical residue

In short, if your carpet is looking dingy, there are a few steps you can take.

  1. Start with getting your carpet professionally cleaned. You may be surprised at the difference that this makes in your room.

  2. If carpet cleaning doesn’t do the job, consider placing a claim to take advantage of your carpet warranty.

  3. If your warranty has been voided or you are past your warranty date and carpet cleaning didn’t do the job, it may be time to replace your carpet.

But don’t worry! Picking out carpet isn’t what it used to be. Carpet manufacturers have started using eco-friendly materials (which feel good on your feet & are good for the planet!), as well as continuing to create trendy and classic styles and colors.
